The Elves of the Christmas Tree Project had their work cut out for them this year with over 40,000 requests for trees. Since 2020 was such a challenging year for everyone, being able to spread Christmas cheer to so many families in need seemed even more important than ever before.

With the help of generous donors and many man hours from our Elves, the Christmas Tree Project did not disappoint and was able to deliver over 500 trees, complete with lights and decorations.

Since Michelle and I established the project in 2010, we have given away over 1,700 fully decorated Christmas trees. The Christmas Tree Project receives hundreds of requests for trees each year from individuals and families in need from across the United States. The trees, and decorations, are brought in from individuals, malls, tree farms and nursery’s, thrift stores, and even mega-home stores all excited to participate.

Each request is considered, with no questions asked. If the recipient is in Colorado Springs or surrounds, they are invited to the annual distribution event to get a tree. If not, then the elves do their best to find donors close by. This is how the project helps families from across the United States and abroad. Donors range from regular people wanting to spread the Christmas spirit to retailers eager to help their community.

This year’s season culminated in a marathon distribution event which took the form of a “drive-through” to ensure Covid guidelines were strictly adhered to. Greeted by our volunteer elves, between 50 and 60 cars per hour passed through and each family received a fully decorated tree. The day was filled with Christmas cheer and spread hope at a time of year that can be especially difficult.

We would live to give special thanks to our many donors. Just like Santa, preparations for Christmas 2021 start early! If you would like to get involved by donating Christmas decorations, sharing your skills or time please visit http://www.thechristmastreeproject.org/
